On 1st July 2019, a local person in Garnethill noted that the statue had sustained damage and the head removed from the sculpture leaving only the shoulders and pediment. Strathclyde Police and Glasgow City Council started an investigation straight away, as this is a quirky detail loved by many Glasgow citizens and visitors alike.

 

According to a local Police Constable, PC Hill, it was revealed to the Local Neighbourhood Watch group the following day, that the head had been removed deliberately for restoration by the building’s owners. Apparently, not only the statue, but the entire building is being restored and refurbished.
